Articulated Shanks

Our Articulated Shanks receive the same meticulous attention to detail as our Stinger Shanks. They are made from stainless steel to prevent rust and blackened for a classic look. The front eye has been left small enough so it looks good on the finished fly. They are 25mm long, which we have found the most useful length for large steelhead and chinook patterns, or predator flies for species like Peacock Bass, Golden Dorado, Northern Pike, Lake Trout, GT, etc. Another good use for these Articulated Shanks is articulated Squid patterns. We fish those on the lower Skeena for spring steelhead. Tie the tentacles and eyes on the lower shank and the body on the first shank and you have a very nice, mobile squid pattern. The way to fish them is to make a long cast and just let it swing.... and hang on! No soft takes with this method. For a step-by-step description on how to tie an articulated squid go here. They are a good alternative to the classic Stinger Shank and Loop setup that is used for standard Intruder styles. The interconnecting shanks will allow you to create a highly mobile pattern at any length you like, while leaving the hook at the rear of the pattern. The articulated shanks are a quality solution for your predator fly pattern needs!

The SRFS Articulated Shanks are stainless steel to prevent rust. In addition to the stainless steel classic look, we also offer them in a blackened classic look; each comes in a 20 pack.
