As the name says, Stinger shanks are specifically designed by us to facilitate tying stinger type fly patterns. Commonly, Waddington shanks were used for this in the past. However, Waddington shanks are designed to be used with the hook directly attached to the rear eye. This has a number of disadvantages; the opening at the rear has a tendency to break the tying thread when tying in a stinger loop, the rear loop tends to add an unnatural profile against backlight (the way a fish sees a fly), and the addition of a rear loop makes a Waddington shank more expensive to produce. As a result the rear loop was often clipped off when using Waddington shanks for stinger type flies. We have saved you that step, thereby creating a cost-effective alternative for the Waddington shank. These shanks are made from stainless steel so they will not rust. They are blackened for a classic look. The shank has a shallow 15 degree angle at the eye to optimize balanced movement of the fly in the water. The Stinger shanks are available in 5 different sizes: 25mm (length) x 1mm (wire diameter), 35mm x 1mm, 45mm x 1mm, 45mm x 1.2mm and 55mm x 1.2mm. We carry the 45mm in 2 different wire diameters; 1mm or 1.2mm. The heavier wire is useful for fly patterns that need some added weight. 2o shanks per pack.
